Hi Parents!
With testing going on for 3rd – 5th grade, our LLC lessons and check outs will be a little different. Please refer to the April calendar in the back pocket of your child’s folder to see what days we are going.
We have started to earn dimes for Tiger Town! In May, we will have a day where the students can ‘shop’ and spend the money they earned. This event is one of my favorites! It ties in a lot of our standard such as economics, counting by 10s, and addition strategies. The students love earning their dimes and adding their totals each week.
Homework for this month will include a reading log that your child is to complete each night. You can read a book to them or they can read a book on their own. If your child is in Target, they only need to complete 3 of the 4 logs each week. Also, continue to practice addition and subtraction fact fluency to 10.
Here is what we have going on this week:
Wednesday: Target Day
Thursday: LLC Check Out
Here is what we are learning this week:
Math: We will work adding 3 numbers using a variety of strategies: adding doubles first, making a 10, and draw a picture.
STEAM: Plant Needs
Writing: For quarter 4, we will focus on all three kinds of writing we have been working on this year: narrative, informational, and opinion. This week, we will finalize our small moment books and then begin an informational book on an animal we observed at the zoo.
Science: We will work on the basic needs of plants.
Reading: Daily 5 Rotations and comparing and contrasting people, events, and facts read in a non-fiction text.
Phonics: Vowel Teams. This week we will work on Y as a vowel (puppy, happy, fly, and shy)
Thanks,
Mrs. Paine
