Hey Parents!
I hope you all had a very relaxing Labor Day weekend! We were in Ellijay with my family. The weather was beautiful, we ate lots of yummy barbecue, and went on a few hikes!
This week on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday (September 4 -6) we will have our CogAT test. This test is teacher paced, read aloud, and provides information on how your child learns best. The test is given over three days and usually lasts about an hour to an hour and a half each morning. Please be sure your child gets a good night sleep and a healthy breakfast so they can be ready to go!
Due to CogAT testing and scheduling, we will not make it to the LLC this week. Your child can keep their books until next week.
Homework Journals will start coming home tomorrow evening. Due to a shorter week AND testing, please just have your child complete what they can. The goal is 4 activities a week, but I would rather them rest this week and prepare for testing each night.
Here is what have going on this week:
Wednesday: CogAT Testing
Thursday: CogAT Testing and Target Day (students will go to target class after testing in our classroom)
Friday: CogAT Testing
Here is what we are learning this week:
Reading: We will wrap up on unit on Story Elements (characters, setting, plot, problem, and solution). Due to testing, we will try to squeeze some reading in where we can but we will most likely start our next unit, Asking and Answering Questions next week.
Writing: Narrative Writing Unit. We will focus on narrowing our story down to a small moment story.
Math: We will continue our focus on teen numbers 11 – 19. Students will use base ten blocks, ten frames, and other tools to present these numbers.
Social Studies: We will begin our unit on Scarcity. We discuss what it means and how consumers must choose between their needs and their wants.
STEAM: We will do some research for our year-long STEAM project. This week we will discuss gardens and brainstorm where and what we can plant around Tritt.
