Hey Parents!
Valentine information went home on Friday. Please have your child start working on creating their box and addressing Valentines! Make sure their box as a large opening on top for the cards to easily fit inside and their name clearly on the top :) This will make delivering the cards easier for the students.
February homework will come home tomorrow. Two of the spaces are for decorating boxes and addressing cards. The calendars say the due date for these items in February 13th which is the Thursday before Valentines day. You can have you child bring in their items either Thursday or Friday. I just ask not a day before Thursday the 13th as storage in the classroom is limited.
SAVE THE DATE!! First grade is heading to the Zoo on Wednesday, April 1st. Any one is welcome to chaperone we just as that you meet us at the zoo at the assigned time and no siblings, please.
Here is what have going on this week:
Monday - Wednesday: Continents Rotations
Thursday: Target Day
Friday: LLC Lesson and Check Out
Here is what we are learning this week:
Reading: This week, we will wrap up our unit on identifying the central message of a fiction story.
Writing: We will begin a new opinion writing piece: Our School is the Best because...
Math: We will begin our unit on identifying the number that is ten more and ten less than a number to 120. Ex: 35 is ten less than 45, 55 is ten more than 45.
Social Studies: This week we will kick off our unit on Continents, Oceans, and Landforms with continents rotations! Each first grade class will learn about North America in their classroom and then each teacher will teach another one of the continents. Classes will travel to two classrooms each day to learn about two new continents and their surrounding oceans as well as landforms found on that continent.
STEAM: On Friday, we determined that due to weather patterns, our carrots we unable to grow successfully. We are now researching a different way to plant our plants (think indoor greenhouse/covered tray) inside and then transplanting them outside when the weather warms up.
Thank you!
Mrs. Paine
